Seasoned Professional Editor
Video editing from the South to the Pacific Northwest
After graduating from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the Spring of 2008 with a BA in Mass Communications, Russ immediately moved to Los Angeles to further his career as an editor and graphic designer. In 2009, Russ was an editor, digital image technician and graphic designer on the independent film Obselidia, which was premiered at the Sundance Film Festival where it won the Alfred P. Sloan Award, Best Cinematography and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. Obselidia was also nominated for two Independent Spirit Awards.
After Los Angeles, Russ moved back to Little Rock and began working with multiple production houses such as See Spot Run Productions, C.J.R.W., Waymack & Crew as well as P. Allen Smith where he was the editor of several television shows, including P. Allen Smiths Garden Home, Garden Style, and Garden to Table. During this time, Russ continued to edit work on local and national narrative shorts and features. Russ has edited and designed posters for six award winning and nominated short films. In 2013 Russ won two Emmys for the AETN production Champion Trees, Best Documentary and Best Cinematography.
From 2014 to 2017 he worked as a freelance editor and graphic designer on projects for AETN, The Boys and Girl Club and Local Little Rock Production Houses such as Exclaim Health, Waymack & Crew, C.J.R.W. as well as some work for Vice Live Nation. Russ then worked on the PBS show Mineral Explorers as Senior editor as well as traveling with the crew to remote locations in Peru, Spain, Portugal, Mexico and the United States as the Assistant Camera, Assistant Director and Data Wrangler. Also during this time he was the D.I.T. for the Features Gods Not Dead 2 and Antiquities. In 2016-2017 Russ worked on 2 projects for AETN, Bell Ringer: The Invisible Brain Injury (Editor) and Dreamland (Assistant Editor). These projects both won Emmys in 2017.
In 2018 Russ moved to Portland, Oregon where he worked as a freelance editor and graphic designer on projects for P. Allen Smith’s Garden Home and Garden Style, C.J.R.W., Waymack and Crew and Classics In Miniatures. While living in Portland Russ has had the pleasure to grow his work family tree creating great working relationships with companies such as Portlandrone/Portland Video Production Company, Untitledno.9, Facebook, 2 Penguins Productions, Kill Rock Stars, Lucky Day, Google, The C47 and Age of Learning. Creating and cultivating relationships with different production houses is a passion of his. Working with different backgrounds of people and learning about them is key for growing as a person and as an editor who excels in story telling.
