On November 1, 2022, 3AM trekked deep into the hills above San Bernadino alongside 25 wildland crew members in a simulated exercise to put our FLORIAN platform to the test. This proof-of-concept demonstration set out to measure the accuracy of the platform’s tracking on X and Y axes in a communications-challenged environment. Together with Microsoft, Samsung, Dejero, Kymeta and FirstNet, the crew conducted a live, wildland training hike, broadcasting their locations live from Samsung-provided devices to Microsoft’s Tactical Command Vehicle at the base. FLORIAN software successfully and consistently followed individual participants throughout the event, tracking devices while they were both online and offline (while in LTE-denied environments). Participants were able to deliver on-scene video from their devices directly back to command. Command was able to see in real time any pathways taken by participants, including their scribbles and all geofenced areas they drew on the map.
