I’m Steve MacLaren, a Detroit-based Director and Director of Photography with over 25 years of experience in film, television, commercials, documentaries, and post-production.
My work spans narrative storytelling, branded content, and visual effects, including serving as lead compositor on Spy Kids 4 and working on Transformers 4.
As a filmmaker, I approach every project with a simple philosophy: I compose the canvas, then paint it with light. From concept development and directing performances to cinematography, lighting, editing, and visual effects, I bring a comprehensive understanding of the filmmaking process.
Experienced with RED, ARRI, Canon, Sony, and professional cinema workflows, I can integrate into an existing production team or bring an experienced crew through my production company.
Available for freelance directing, cinematography, commercial productions, documentaries, and narrative projects nationwide.
