About Me

I’m Javier Castillo, a Salvadorian-American cinematographer who believes visuals can shift perspectives and create space for voices that aren’t always heard. Raised in El Salvador before moving to the U.S. in 2015, I bring both cultures into my work, shaping how I see light, people, and storytelling. My mission is to craft images that are cinematic yet human, while building collaborative sets where everyone feels seen.

I’ve shot everything from narrative shorts on 16mm to branded campaigns for Wayfair, MIT, Harvard, and Massachusetts General Hospital. My recent work includes an environmental justice docuseries with The Loop Lab, a branded documentary with David Ortiz, and commercial campaigns in Boston, NYC, and beyond.

Technically, I’m fluent in cinema systems like Arri Alexa, RED, Sony Venice, and Canon C-series, while also working in analog formats like 16mm, 35mm, and Super 8. But for me, it’s never just about the gear — it’s about creating visuals that resonate.

As co-founder of Castillo Holliday Films and a Certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), I’ve built my career on inclusivity, artistry, and care. I’m always open to connecting with directors, producers, and creatives who want to tell stories that matter.
