Jim Jones-Production Designer
About
I have been designing scenery in various art departments for more than 30 years.
Armed with a degree in Theater Design I made my way to Los Angeles in hopes of getting into the entertainment industry. I learned about television production by spending many years on soap operas. That experience taught me about how what I do relates to blocking, lighting, and wardrobe, as well as how the actors react to your scenery can have an impact on their performances. Over the years I made the move to sit-coms and although that is a different animal, there are many similarities and my approach stays the same.
I have been fortunate to design shows like;
All My Children-ABC
Jessie-Disney Channel
Bunk’d-Disney Channel
Warped!-Nickelodeon
That Girl Lay Lay-Nickelodeon
iCarly-Paramount Plus
and many more.
Over the years I’ve been involved in designing everything from Bedrooms, Living Rooms, and Schools, to Awards Shows, Talk Shows, and Game Shows. All within the confines of the narrative format. I’ve even designed the Underworld and the inside of a phone app.
I like to give producers not only what they require but what they need. Even if they just haven’t realized it yet.
I work in SketchUp to envision my designs and use Vectorworks for my drafting needs.
I love what I do and I think it shows. I believe I’m collaborative and easy to work with.
