Albacete has been making navajas for centuries, and the trade still lives inside a walkable quarter around Plaza de la Catedral. I scouted it the way a recce has to be done: at street level, in dated imagery, address by address, cross-checked against map data by a second scout before anything went public. Read this as a working plate, not a promise. Every line carries its date; where the ground stayed silent, it says so.

The anchors

Casa de las Navajas, Plaza de la Catedral 2. The freshest capture on the rack, November 2025: CUCHILLERÍA across the front, glass cases stocked to the window, blades arranged like a text. If you need one street-level frame that says this city makes knives, start here.

El Artesano, Pasaje Lodares 1. A live interior, August 2022: walls of navajas, an attendant holding a blade mid-motion, 3 CLAVELES stickers by the entrance. Note for continuity: no door sign in frame. The name comes from place data, not from the glass.

Navajas Albacete S.L., Blasco Ibáñez 56. Shutter down, April 2025, painted name running the width of the roll: NAV at one edge of the frame, ALBACETE at the other. Exterior holds; interior unverified. Two adjacent captures make the name, neither makes it whole.

Museo de la Cuchillería. Building and stone front confirmed; the nameplate is not. The 2020 capture was shot low, cars across the letters. Logged, unverified.

Flags: the famous names

Simón, Marqués de Molins 14: the frame our pass surfaced is dated January 2015 and reads a dental clinic. Pastor, Tesifonte Gallego 14: February 2014 reads a mall corridor. Both addresses could be renamed, renumbered, or gone. That is exactly why they are flagged rather than claimed.

What the quarter gives a camera

Fifteen minutes on foot: terracotta façades, iron balconies, windows of steel, morning light running the length of narrow streets. Craft interiors exist and are photographable in principle, but the scout’s job is to separate “exists” from “open on your day.”
