The Bay Area 48 Hour Film Project

Join us 8/25 - 8/27 for a wild and sleepless weekend of filmmaking!

The 48 Hour Film Project is an international timed based filmmaking event in which the participating teams are given a mere weekend (48 Hours) write, shoot, edit and finish a 4-7 minute short film using a provided character, line of dialogue, prop, and a drawn pair of genres.

The Bay Area 48 Hour Film project (formerly known as the San Francisco & the San Jose 48 Hour Film Projects, and whom have now merged) is coming the weekend of August 25-27! Starting on Friday 8/25, Bay Area filmmakers will write, shoot, edit, score, and complete their films, uploading them to our site by 7:30pm on Sunday 8/27.  All submitted films will then be screened in the coming weeks to a public audience. Part film screening, part celebration, the screenings celebrate the creativity, ambition, and hard work of the local filmmaking community.

All on-time films are then passed on to a jury of judges for award consideration. The judges deliberate and then announce a list of awards ranging from Best Use of Required Prop, to Best Acting, all the way to Best Film of the Bay Area. The winner then advances to Filmapalooza, the 48 Hour Film Project’s annual, international film festival to be held next in Lisbon, Portugal in March of 2024.

At Filmapalooza, the winner of Best Film of the Bay Area will go on to compete against winners from all over the world for the title of Best 48 Hour Film of the Year. Even better, a selection of the top 48 Hour films from Filmapalooza will advance to a special screening at the Cannes Short Film Corner.
