It’s NOT about me…
What you "do" vs what your "job" actually is.
It’s NOT about me!
It’s never been about me!
As a creative freelancer, it’s VERY easy to get into the trap of marketing oneself by highlighting how unique or different we are – our voices, our delivery, our audio quality, etc…
But at the end of the day, you, the person who actually hires folks like us, already expect us to provide all of these things as a starting point.
We expect our mechanic to fix our brakes properly every time we bring our car in.
But what our “JOB” is, when we are hired for projects, is to make YOU the hero to your stakeholders.
Think of it like the hammer story. You never buy a hammer because of the grip, weight, strength, or other features. You buy a hammer to drive nails into wood. To use it to frame walls. To build something. The “benefit” is what you’re buying it for.
Same goes for voiceovers. (ok, well, not the hammering part)
Deep down, you hire someone to make your life easier.
To stay within your fixed budget.
To hit your own delivery deadlines.
To have your audio engineer and others say YOU made the right choice of talent.
YOU have a lot on your plate!
You juggle many priorities and personalities.
You just need someone to be there you can rely on and do what you need, when you need it and make the whole process as enjoyable as possible.
THAT’S how you become the hero.
And THAT is our job as creative freelancers.
If this resonated with you, I’d love to hear your thoughts, stories, insights, perspectives…
