Aliza Brugger is an award-winning filmmaker based in Los Angeles/New York, originally from Nebraska. They received an MFA in screenwriting/directing from Columbia University where they wrote and directed films that have screened internationally. Roadkill was an official selection at the Oscar qualifying Outfest Los Angeles, Out on Film and Out at the Movies where it won Best Screenplay. Ain’t No Mercy for Rabbits was an official selection at the Torino, Montclair, Oscar-qualifying In the Palace and Female Eye Festival where it won Best International Short Film. Their most recent short film, Soma received the Emerging Filmmakers Grant in support of its production and the Chinh Chu Finishing Prize in support of its post-production. In addition to their narrative work, Aliza has directed commercials, music videos and web series.

Aliza is most fulfilled with their work when they are exploring themes of class, queerness, family dysfunction and the subconscious. Their goal as a filmmaker is to create empathy and connection.
